The main thing that held me back from getting the AirPods max was actually not their ridiculous price, but instead their strange choice of case functionality. The AirPods max come with a case, if you can even call it that, it's not very protective after all. I would be fine not using the case and just using the AirPods max BUT the case is actually a requirement for the headphones, as its the only way to turn them off. The headphones have a sensor that turn them off automatically when in the case. This is the ONLY way to turn them off, there is no physical switch or off button on the headphones. So I really hope they get rid of this case requirement with the AirPods max version 2, in which case I will probably buy them. I've been using the Audio-Technica ATH-M50X for over 8 years now, and while I still love them it would be nice to have a modern upgrade. So fingers crossed.
